My name is Bettina Hughes and I am a MOTHER RUNNER.
Running makes me feel STRONG. I run because I want my kids to see me fight for goals. Nothing in life is easy. I want to teach my kids how to work hard and fight for what they want.
The word “CANCER” is always in my head. My mother was diagnosed with cancer when she was 28, 6 months after I was born. She was a strong woman and a fighter. She lost her battle when I was 17. She taught me to NEVER GIVE UP. I’m a strong woman now because of her. Fifteen years later my dad was diagnosed with cancer and lost his battle 30 days later.
I have always wanted to do something to help others who know the same pain that cancer can bring. Pain that never truly goes away.
I’m excited to be part of the G9motherrunner movement. I want to support G9 by raising $5,000 as I train for my first ultramarathon this fall. I chose the ultramarathon because it is out of my comfort zone and it will be physically painful for me. I want to use my pain in a mindful way to inspire others to use their inner strength to learn and grow. My sorrow doesn’t define me, I define my sorrow.
Follow my journey as I train to finish my first 50km. Please help me by giving whatever you can.
